Measured Building and Land Survey

Measuring a 15th Century Church

Spring / Summer Projects | 7/7/2017

In June we were asked to carry out a measured survey of a Church in North Devon built in the 1400's. As a busy centre of the community, the Church needs to upgrade some facilities within the internal space of the building. After many years of harsh British weather (the Church stands 235 metres above sea level), the west facing tower is in need of some serious attention.

The external elevations were scanned and overlaid with othrographic digital photography so that individual stonework can be assessed.

17th Century Measured Survey

Summer!

The last few months have been so super busy we haven't even had time to update our blog! But Summer is now here and we have so many interesting projects that our surveyors are working on.

A proportion of May was taken up by returning to a site near Wincanton that we originally measured in 2015. At that time we were concentrating on the main farmhouse, the adjoining piggery and the stables. This time round we were asked to measure the farmyard, the threshing barn that was 68 meters long and the dairy. The client had changed their architect since our first visit and we were delighted that the new architect was so impressed by the standard of the drawings that he invited us back to measure the broadened scope

A small section of the farmhouse courtyard  was also asked to be scanned so that a timber frame consultant could use point cloud data to accurately attain positions and levels for the new veranda that will be added to this amazing 17th century building.

February Projects 2

Former Victorian Hotel | 3/23/2017

Two of our surveyors have been busy measuring floor plans of a former Victorian hotel in Weston Super Mare. After years of minimal use and deterioration, it's time for the property to have a fresh lease of life. Whether it's changing the interior layout, full renovation or starting again completely, this survey will be the first part of the process to breathe new life into the site.

Two very different sites measured this week.

A topographical site on the Somerset / Dorset border featuring a run down cottage and overgrown garden. The house is ready to be demolished and plans are to rebuild on the site. Tranquil hamlet set in a gorgeous location.

Second site was a cottage in West Somerset. Beautiful features, packed with charm and plenty of sloping floors and low ceilings. The cottage is being renovated and extended to incorporate detached outbuildings. Full set of floor plans and elevations required due to it being a sensitive conservation area.

We often get the opportunity to go back to some of our projects some time later to see how projects have developed. It's always amazing to see how buildings and land can be completely transformed.

Meet The Team

2/23/2017

It's hard to believe that it's been 8 years since we started Levett Surveying!

We first started the business in Hereford but a few years later we opened another office in Taunton when we moved our family to the sunny South West. We still have a team that cover the West Midlands but the majority of our work is now in Somerset and Devon.

Over the years we've worked on some really exciting projects including clients such as The National Trust. We've worked on a variety of projects ranging from private to commercial but we particularly love working on Listed and Heritage buildings, the oldest dating back to 990AD.

We've kept our business small, using a trusted team of experienced freelancers. However, this year Richard joins our team as an Assistant Surveyor. He's currently training and tackling projects with Paul and we're excited to be working with him.

This is just a brief synopsis of who we are but please look at our work, download our drawings and find out more about us by having a look at our LinkedIn profiles.

So here's the team!
